Newly remodeled with the best home style Japanese cooking. The two chicken was broke da mout ono w pleasant presentation. The sukiyaki w watercress was too huge for 1 person. The poke was awesome fresh & andagi (Okinawan doughnut) was the coup de grace that I could only show you my happy plate. 😊
My friends and I dined here for my birthday lunch/dinner. I made the reservation the day of (Sunday) and called once they opened. Easy process and very welcoming. They also gave me a discount so I'm not aware of the total as my friends paid but the meal and staff were awesome. Everything was delicious. We were very pleased with the shrimp tempura (huge) and the portion size as well as the quality of the miso and salad. Mahalo

I love this place! Have been coming here with my family for 20+ years. Really tasty local Japanese food...chicken katsu, teri chicken, teri beef and shrimp tempura is consistently good. Fair portions for the cost considering inflation. Customer service is friendly and efficient...Sato is the best! Their bar is right next door to the dining room so it can get kind of loud... it's part of the personality of the place.
I never knew that there is a Japanese restaurant on this side, I live in Waipahu for 15yrs. We tried a set for 2pax and wasn't expecting it's like good for 4pax🤣. I like the tofu and steak and of course my fav, sashimi. Foods are great, service are best.
Haven't been to the restaurant in years. Went in for the birthday deal. Made an appointment via their website which directed me to Open Table. Ordered 4 Teishoku meals, birthday one was free. We got chicken katsu, miso butterfish, teri rib eye, and tempura. Food was ono, service was great. The restaurant got busy real quick within an hour of opening.
Can't believe I'm only now trying out Kuni! Their menu has teishoku items, udon, saimin, tendon/katsu don, chicken katsu, tonkatsu, fried butterfish/grilled butterfish, shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura. They have icecream (ube and green tea) for dessert and lots of Japanese beers/sake for special occasions. The owner is hilarious.

We decided to branch out from our usual spot while our niece was visiting, and I’m so glad we found Kuni Restaurant and Catering! We had a party of six, and the space was clean, spacious, and very comfortable for our group. Everything we ordered was delicious, but my absolute favorite was the Shoyu pork—it was so tender and full of flavor! We finished the meal with dessert, and while my niece and her husband loved the Mochi ice cream, my husband and I shared the Ube ice cream, which tasted amazing. Fantastic food paired with an awesome staff—we had a wonderful time!
Service was great. No wait time and it was not crowded. A great place to go and just have an early dinner or late lunch with a group. The only thing that threw me off was the sauce on the butterfish was salty that day. Definitely ask if you can opt out on the sauce or sauce on the side because the fish is ono. That way you can decide if you want to add sauce or not.
